Review Policy

If you would like us to review your game, please send us a message using the contact form with the subject “Game Review”.

Reviews are unbiased and based on the opinion of the reviewer. We try to review every game as fairly as we can. StartGame is not affiliated with any third party so our reviews, scores and recommendations are not swayed by any external influences.

All 6th and 7th generation games, add-ons or DLC that we review will be assigned a StartGame Recommendation (instead of a score) to give you a better idea of the game. Games reviewed under the Retro Review feature will be unscored.

Must Buy – These titles are something that every gamer should have in their collection.

Score explanation:

Some of our older reviews include a score as well as a recommendation, in which case please refer to the explanations given below:

0/10 – Shocking. If we used this score we’d probably create a black hole or something.

1/10 – This game is awful.

2/10 – A really poor game.

3/10 – A poor game.

4/10 – This game is below average.

5/10 – An average game.

6/10 – This game is above average.

7/10 – This is a good game.

8/10 – A very good game.

9/10 – This game is superb.

10/10 – This game is AWESOME. Seriously.

It takes us hours, and sometimes days, to write a review which covers all the bases and is completely fair and objective. Whilst everyone takes away different things from a review, we’d hope that you concentrate on what we’ve written, rather than the score we’ve put on the bottom.
