First Impressions: Start The Party! (Move)

Start The Party! is a party game for PlayStation Move, developed by the busy bees at Supermassive games (they also made Tumble), which includes a series of minigames for casual or social gamers to play alone or with friends. These minigames include the likes of fly-swatting and picture drawing which sound very basic, but are actually quite fun… for a few minutes at least.

The game doesn’t really work well as a single player experience but comes alive once there are multiple players. You only need one Move controller to play with up to 4 friends, taking turns to score the highest each round. There are a few different types of rounds, such as the versus round in which players must get the highest score in a certain minigame, and quickfire round which involves little blasts on several different minigames. The quickfire round is definitely the most fun as it’s fast paced and you don’t have enough time to get bored of any of the games. Start The Party! is definitely better with multiple players, hence the name.

Playing the game itself is fairly easy with the accuracy of the PlayStation Move controller, so swatting, batting, hitting and slashing are all fairly flawless except a few instances of dodgy hit detectiong when trying to chop fruit in half with a sword. It definitely is worth trying if you have friends or family members that are interested in playing it with you, but as a single player game it’s fairly poor.
