Weekly Retrospective: 16/05/10

Another week and there still aren’t many huge updates. It’s good in a way, as it means we’re still on that steady ground and there’s no reason for any massive overhauls or changes. Everything still works (mostly) apart from the Quote & Reply function in the forums which is broken, but we know what the problem is so it’s only a matter of time before it’s fixed. The designer of the theme was a bit naughty when he wrote it and loads his own version of jQuery in the header, which conflicts with the forum software. Tut.

We’ve switched back to YouTube for now as our video host; blip.tv was reducing the quality of our videos substantially during the conversion which gave them a grainy, blurry effect. Youtube does a much better job of the conversion and allows HD video, giving you guys something of much better quality to watch. There are the evils that go along with posting on YouTube – I’ve already had multiple emails about EA content ownership – but it comes with the territory.

Yes, the ads are back for another week. I doubt you’ve missed them but it’s necessary for me to do a week long test now that I’ve added banner support in the header. Google Adsense is generally good at relevant ads (although I am sick of seeing Evony), but you occasionally get the oddities and blatant rip-offs which I ridicule in my Cookie Cutter articles. It’s biting the hand that feeds, although I honestly can’t help myself when the hand is a Bejeweled clone.

I’m also working on something a bit special right now which some of you who follow me on Twitter will know about. If you don’t, scroll down the page and check the box at the bottom of the footer for a hint. Hopefully it’ll be finished in the next couple of weeks.

LS out.
