So, StartGame rolls on to the fourth month since official launch, and we’re all still alive and kicking. It really doesn’t feel that long but hey, time flies.
Anyone that’s visited the site over the past week will know that I’ve been making a few alterations here and there. The main change is that the header now has a banner next to the logo, and the search form has been moved to the navigation bar. The main reason behind the change was that the theme lacked ad/banner support of any kind, so I thought it would be a good idea to implement it. Don’t worry, you won’t be seeing random adsense ads stuck up there, it’s mainly for us to put our own banners there if needs be, like the current link to our Burning Rubber With StartGame article.
The observant amongst you have probably spotted that widget bar adsense ad, too. I have always said that I would keep the site ad-free as long as possible and I do mean it; the advertising that was there was a week long revenue test. As of tonight it will be gone, and you won’t be seeing it again in the near future until we really, really can’t do without it. The affiliate banners which are part of Buy Through StartGame are staying though; they’re tucked away on their own page and you’re given the choice as to whether you buy through them or not.
Now that many things are settled, we’re trying to get a few community things started. I know there are a few lurkers around and those that have signed up and don’t comment, and we’d really love you all to get stuck in. If you’re not signed up yet it only takes a couple of seconds, and for anyone signed up feel free to comment on the front page or in the forums. We greatly appreciate feedback on our articles and videos, good or bad, and love it even more when they get a discussion going.
Our first major gaming community move has been into Steam, with StartGamers sciontc1 and wick15 creating the StartGame Steam Group, aided by our very own mynameisblair. If you want an invitation to join our group, just give us your Steam username in the comments of this article, this forum thread, or, if you don’t want your username on the site, send an email to steam@startgame.org. One of the group administrators will send you an invite and you can chill out with the other members, and perhaps play some games together. Pretty neat, eh?
Hopefully this will be the first of many community happenings on StartGame from now on, both on the site and involving other platforms (such as with Steam). Enjoy!
