What We’ve Been Playing: 07/02/10

When we’re not out fighting crime and helping to get old ladies out of trees, we occasionally find the spare hour or two to actually play some games. Here’s a brief run-down of what we’ve been playing this week.

I’ve not been playing as much as I’d have liked this week, but it’s been a good week none-the-less. I managed to get hold of Rez recently, and it’s been an absolute blast to play through. I’m a fan of shooters and Rez is a complete shake-up of the standard formula; what United Game Artists came up with is a fantastic experience and a real joy to play through.

I often visit my local CeX to see what cheap treats they have, and came across Serious Sam: Next Encounter sitting unloved in the PS2 section. It’s some good, mindless fun which you can blast through when you just want to relax and kill things with ridiculously large weapons.

After writing this week’s Cookie Cutter, I had an urge to play through some of my favourite parts from Killzone 2 again. Autarch’s Sanctum is still an epic finale to the game and delivers a great final boss to the game in the form of Colonel Radec.

I happen to be on a gaming sabbatical at the moment, so I’m not playing anything unitl April comes around.  Great start to a new site, but I digress.  You can still expect articles from me, and maybe a story or two in the meantime.  Hopefully you all can appreciate a slightly skewed perspective and put up with me while I moan about whatever whilst I’m not gaming, but I felt I needed a bit of a break.  Plus, I’m super dedicated to helping out the local coppers, they work hard, but just can’t get rid of all of the scum by themselves.

I’ve played a lot less that I usually do this week. I still managed to get quite a bit of gaming done this weekend, in my free time. At the beginning of the week, I played some MAG. I was surprised to find out some people actually do use the communication properly, and with the officer in command giving each platoon orders, talking to all 128 soldiers, it really felt like I was in a warzone.

I managed to play Rock Band 2 and finally got 1 million fans (yes, I am that popular). Having transfered all of the songs from the first Rock Band over, I found that having almost double the songs makes the game even more fun, and it only cost me £2.50 from the PlayStation Store. I’ve played a few other games here and there, namely Forza 3 and the first Bioshock.

Yesterday, I began playing Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time on challenge mode, only stopping almost 12 hours later when I had the platinum trophy. It’s been a while since I’ve played a game all the way through without switching off, and it made me enjoy the game more than I did on my first playthrough.

This week I’ve been playing a few different things. I spent a lot of time playing Ashes Cricket 2009 which is a good game, although not having any competition this generation. There are a few niggles I have with it, the AI could be improved and so could the visuals. The cricket is good, though, with the batting and bowling being rather fun. I also got to try out Brutal Legend this week. I loved the demo but something about the full game is just different. I can’t put my finger on it but I don’t like it. GTA IV was a game I revisited this week, playing a few of the story missions I remembered why I love the game. That was about it for me this week, I don’t know what I’ll be playing next week…
